Club América surged to the top of the Liga MX table with an impressive 1-0 victory over Monterrey at the weekend. Luis Fernando Fuentes banged in a rebound on 35 minutes and the América defense held firm. Monterrey piled on the pressure in the second half, but to no avail. It won Torneo Apertura this season, but it remains bottom of the Clausura table, without a win in seven games. Pumas UNAM suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Monarcas Morelia and dropped down to third place. Club León is back up to second after beating Necaxa 2-1 at home.
Cruz Azul Remains Hot
Cruz Azul moved up to fourth after edging Tigres in an enthralling clash. It has now won three games in a row, and it is unbeaten in five. Querétaro is down to fifth after its defeat at the hands of Atlético San Luis, which rose to sixth. The other two playoff places are occupied by Juárez and in-form Santos Laguna. Guillermo Almada’s men survived a late red card to beat Juárez 2-1 on the road. Four of the nine weekend games finished 2-1, while there were three 1-0 games and two 2-0 games. That means there was not a single draw, and no games went over 3.5 goals. Bettors might find those trends interesting when making selections next weekend.
