Liga MX Weekend Recap – Cruz Azul stormed to the top of the Liga MX table with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Monarcas Morelia at the weekend. La Máquina opened up a 3-0 lead through a brace from Jonathan Rodríguez and an Elías Hernández strike. However, the hosts hit back through Martín Rodríguez and Aldo Rocha. It was set up for a tense finish, but Monarcas had Sebastián Vegas sent off, and Orbelín Pineda wrapped up an away win in the seventh minute of injury time. That saw Cruz Azul leapfrog Club América and León to take top spot. América suffered a surprise 3-0 home defeat to Necaxa after having two men sent off. León lost 2-0 away at Guadalajara.

Seven Men See Red

Juárez is up to fourth thanks to a 3-0 win against Atletico San Luis. Both teams had a man sent off in that game. There were seven red cards shown in nine Liga MX games at the weekend. Discipline remains an issue for almost every team in the league. Pumas UNAM remain fifth after losing 3-0 to Tigres. The game was a hard fought contest until UNAM had Luis Fernando Quintero sent off on the stroke of half-time. Andre-Pierre Gignac then put Pumas to the sword with a magnificent hat-trick. Puebla climbed up the table thanks to a 1-0 win against 10-man Club Tijuana. Monterrey’s alarming slump continued. It lost 2-0 away to Toluca, leaving it bottom of the table. It is winless in Torneo Clausura, with three draws and five defeats from eight games. That is shocking form for a team that just won the Apertura championship.

Liga MX Week 9 Preview

Cruz Azul will bid to maintain its strong run of form when it hosts Tijuana on Saturday. 888 Sport has a market leading -143 on it winning the game, which looks really attractive. It has won four on the bounce, while Tijuana has taken just two points from its last five games. Monterrey has a chance to pick up its first win of the season when it hosts San Luis. It is priced at -150 to return to winning ways. Necaxa vs Morelia looks like the most interesting game on Sunday. Both teams are dangerous in attack and poor in defense, so both teams to score and over 2.5 goals appeals. León is also well priced to pull off an away win at Juárez.
